The Basics of SOAR - Team Training
We often ask for prayer as we prepare these teams for their ministry, but maybe everyone doesn't understand what that entails. It is more than just when the flight will leave and return and what to pack.
For most teams, they will receive a 2 hour team meeting each month for six months leading up to their short term mission. Although each team training is different because of their experince and their project, there are main topics that we cover at each meeting. Those topics include culture, logistics, project preparation, finances, team building, and spiritual training. During this training the teams really get an understanding of how they need to prepare their lessons so they will be culturally sensitive. The last thing we want from a team is that they will have a lesson or drama that will offend in the culture and therefore cause more damage than good. We of course also have to be creative about what is permissible and what is not when it comes to appropriate dress. (The explanation for the photo above.)
So now when we ask for prayers for our team training, maybe you can picture a little bit better just how to pray. |

| First Trip of 2008
After months of preparation, the time is nearly upon us to lead the first team for 2008. Young Americans Christian School, YACS, will be heading to Bethshean Mexico Mission March 31 - April 8. These juniors and seniors are taking spanish and are ready to put it into practice along with their enthusiasm for ministry. SOAR has been leading teams from YACS for the past 6 years.
This group of young people has made quite an impact through the years and we are looking forward to the work this year as well. They will be going into 5 different high schools in the villages near Estancia presenting dramas and cultural dances. The school message is about making wise choices of good versus evil. The hope is that the mexican teens will enjoy the presentations so much that they will come to the camp each evening for a youth rally. Then at the evening sessions, the group will be able to present the message of Jesus Christ to young people that probably don't have a personal relationship with him. Pray for this entire group during the week - 28 people in all. |

Sewing Machines in Use You may remember that back in October SOAR sent a shipment to Jamaica to help with the hurricane relief. In that shipment we sent two sewing machines to be given to ladies that could use them to help make a living for their families. The sewing machines have been given to ladies and we are happy to report they are in use. You can tell by the big smiles on their faces just how pleased they are. |

Keeping up with SOAR family
Many of you know the Skaggs family. Wayne and his son Jon were participants in the Mt. Carmel team that went to Bethshean in July of 2007. Beth, Wayne's wife, works for the CDC in AIDS research and accepted a position in Mozambique to help in this world wide health crisis. To keep up with their journey, check out their blog at http://maputolivin.blogspot.com/
Also, CT Abraham with Kerala Christian Mission has received his visa, as well as for the entire family, to come to the US. They will continue with their preparations to plant a church in New York City to minister to those that speak Malayalam. |

| Car Needed for Missionaries on Furlough
A Missionary family, the Schmidts, who have served for years in Peru will be coming home on furlough beginning in June. They will be arriving in Atlanta June 3rd and will be visiting supporters and preparing for their daughter's wedding in Dayton, TN. They will be flying out of Atlanta on July 1st. If you have a car/van/SUV available for the month that they could use, please e-mail me at kerid@soarministries.org. |
