Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe that summer is upon us. In less than one week I, Keri, will leave with our first summer group, and then it is just one week after the other until July. I will give you a quick run down in today's newsletter about the various groups and how you can pray for them. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Urgent Prayer Request for SOAR family
Neil&Alyssa The Phillips Family
Larry Philips is a board member for SOAR, and his family is in need of prayer. His daughter-in-law Alyssa has been diagnosed with a very aggressive type of cervical cancer. She has already had surgery and received three rounds of chemo. The cancer has metastasized to the liver, so the chemo is to help shrink the liver tumors and prevent any spreading. Alyssa has a great outlook, but appreciates all the prayers being offered on her behalf. Neil and I were in youth group together at Mt. Carmel and he is a great supporter of SOAR as well.

Women's Retreat in Mexico
Sandia 2008 Sandia el Chico
At the end of the YACS trip in April, I was asked to stay in Mexico and speak at the Women's Retreat about 5 hours north of Estancia. The original speaker had some health issues and was unable to travel at the last minute. Feeling the intense pressure, I was a bit hesitant to accept, but God is always faithful. He gave me the message of Created to Serve for 4 talks. The time with the ladies was once again very rewarding, and hopefully the ladies learned as much as I did about the fact that we are called to serve, and not just go through life for our own edification.

The retreat ended with a session of washing each lady's feet, just as Christ washed the disciples feet. Although they were quite reluctant to allow me to wash their feet, we were all humbled to know that Christ not only washed the disciples dirty feet, but the next day walked the path to Calvary for each of us. What greater act of service and sacrifice could there be?
June 2008 Groups
 June 2008
We have 4 groups leaving in June this year.

June 5 - 13 Villa Rica CC
This group is a first timer group going to work with Cris Garcia at Bethshean in Mexico. They will be doing a variety of activities while they are there. They will conduct two health clinics where they will do screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar along with general health information. They also will be visiting with elderly home, conducting VBS, doing hands on projects, and even conducting a CPR class. Yes, it will be a full week.

June 14 - 21 Christ Church Episcopal
Christ Church is our annual building group that goes to Juarez, Mexico to work with Casas Por Cristo. It is always the week that brings out the "do-it-yourself" side of each of us as we complete a two room house in one week from foundation to roof, even drywall. This group also works with a local minister - Samuel Martinez - to hold a health clinic at his church. This clinic opens up opportunities for the church to meet more people in their community and hopefully get them connected with a church. Pray for strength and endurance for this group.

June 22 - 28 Peachcrest CC
Peachcrest has a youth group going to work at Sunbelt Christian Youth Ranch in Lake, MS. They get to do fun ranch work like splitting wood and baling hay. They will also have some time to interact with the youth that live in the homes there. This is Peachcrest's first youth team, so we are excited to work with them and see how God can ignite the fire for missions in their youth. Judy will be leading this team of her home church. Pray for safe travel as they will be driving to MS, and of course for the strength they will need for their activities.

June 27 - July 5 Mt. Carmel CC
Mt. Carmel will once again be going to Bethshean in Mexico. They have their VBS program they will once again be taking on the road to the various villages. Each morning they will be visiting the elderly home where they will have a devotion, craft time, and lots and lots of singing.

"I used to think that prayer should have the first place and teaching the second. I now feel it would be truer to give prayer  the first, second and third places and teaching the fourth."
James O. Fraser
